4 Things to Know About Performance Chips 4 Things to Know About Performance Chips Performance computer chips are vehicular add-ons designed to offer a wide range of improvements to a car's systems. Though not upgrades for everyone, performance chips are easy to use and inexpensive, making them great additions to cars, trucks, and SUVs that want to improve upon their stock systems.
Before making a purchase or choosing to install one, however, a driver should know all the details about a performance chip installation and the results of using it. Below, we'll explain 4 different factors you should consider before installing a chip, so that you can make a well-informed choice of whether to install it or not. Installation Chalk this one up to a big one for performance chips. Many automotive upgrades involve hours of work with complicated tools, and require a great deal of technological know-how. Not so with performance computer chips. In fact, most people should be able to install one in under a half-hour, all with just basic tools. Recent upgrades to also means that you won't have to reset the ECU to get the chip to work with your vehicle's systems, saving you even more time and hassle.
FORD PERFORMANCE MODULE. Warning lamps stay on after installing the module. The JET Performance Chip or Module and reinstall back to stock.
Fuel Efficiency Performance chips aren't magically going to turn your car into a hybrid or an electric vehicle, but they can help to cut your gas bill a bit. The boost provided by a chip results in enhanced fuel efficiency, and you can expect to save around 4-7 miles per gallon after installation. Results will differ depending on the model/year vehicle you own, but that's nothing to scoff. Horsepower Increases Look, if you desire top-of-the-line horsepower gains, you're not going to get them with a performance chip.
The 400HP increase that's commonplace with a turbocharger installation just isn't going to happen here, but then again, you won't be spending thousands of dollars either. It's not that performance chips don't perform admirably: a 60HP gain is nothing to laugh about, and will certainly help the average driver out quite a bit. Just don't expect it to turn your vehicle into a racecar. Price This category may be the real winner here. Effective performance chips can often be purchased for around $50, making them significantly cheaper than almost any other performance upgrade. Turbochargers tend to run into the thousands of dollars, and many other performance components still run well into the hundreds.
If you want an easy-to-install piece of technology that provides results and is cheap to buy, a performance chip is your best bet. It may not be a racecar driver's number one addition, but for most drivers, this chip delivers the goods.

Historically, dual booting Windows and a Linux distribution was fraught with risks due to the propensity of the Linux GRUB loader to interfere with and corrupt the Windows bootloader. This often left the Windows installation unbootable, which then required several complex steps in order to rescue the Windows installation. In recent distributions, the Linux GRUB loader has now been updated to GRUB2, which tends not to have an adverse effect on the Windows bootloader.
This tutorial will show you the easiest method to successfully dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux, using the LinuxMint13 Cinnamon distribution as an example. This method has also been tested on, and works with, Ubuntu 12.04 and Fedora 17. Please note the goal of this tutorial is to show you how to dual-boot correctly without compromising your Windows 7 installation. Whilst the fundamentals of installing a Linux distribution are briefly covered for the purposes of this tutorial, more detail on how to use Linux are outside its scope and will not be covered.
For more information on using Linux distributions, you are welcome to visit the, or sites. Note that this technique will only work on a computer that uses Legacy BIOS - it will not work on a computer that uses UEFI. Please take careful note: If you currently: • Use, or plan to use, Windows Bitlocker Drive Encryption, or • Require access to OEM installation recovery functionality, then you cannot use the methods outlined in this tutorial, and should not proceed any further. The reasons for this are that this dual-boot technique requires you to delete the 100MB System Reserved partition. Without this partition, both Bitlocker Drive Encryption, and the Recovery functions employed by OEM's accessed during Windows boot, will no longer work.

Requirements: In order to undertake this tutorial, you will need the following: Hardware:- • 1Gb or larger USB thumb/flash drive (to hold your bootable Partition Wizard and LinuxMint13 installation) Software:- • FREE version of • 32-bit edition of • FREE version of bootable • FREE version of Knowledge or skills:- • Creating bootable versions of Partition Wizard and LinuxMint13 on either CD, DVD or USB • Booting a computer from either a CD/DVD or USB drive. • Manipulating (deleting, moving and re-sizing) Windows NTFS disk partitions Before you begin: Insurance against mistakes Mistakes made during partition manipulation can render your system unbootable.
In order to protect yourself against such inadvertent mistakes, I strongly recommend you create an image of your current system prior to commencing with this tutorial. Please refer to either of this tutorial for help on imaging your system: In the event that you do make a mistake, the image you created will allow you to revert to your original installation with a minimum of fuss. This step is important, especially for novices - don't be tempted to skip it.
Part A - Create the bootable Partition Wizard and Linux USB YUMI can support several bootable ISO's concurrently, so its advantageous to install both Partition Wizard and LinuxMint13 to the USB flash drive, one after the other. Step 1 Download YUMI, Partition Wizard and LinuxMint13 from the links provided earlier. Step 2 Insert your USB flash drive into the computer, and then run YUMI. Step 3 On the YUMI interface, do the following: - select the drive letter corresponding to the USB flash drive - place a tick in the Format Drive box (the USB flash will be formatted to FAT32) - scroll down the distribution list and select Partition Wizard (Partition Tools) - browse to locate and select the Partition Wizard ISO you downloaded earlier The completed panel should look very similar to that shown below. Step 4 Click the Create button to install Partition Wizard to the USB flash drive.
Take note of the format warning message that is displayed - the entire USB flash drive will be formatted to the required FAT32 format, so double check to see that the correct USB device is selected. Once complete, you will be asked whether you wish to install another ISO/Distro. Click Yes, and then select the LinuxMint13 ISO as shown below. Click Click the Create button to write the install LinuxMint13 to the USB flash drive. Once complete, exit YUMI. For ease of reference, we will simply refer to this flash drive as the YUMI flash drive from here on in. You have now completed Part A of the tutorial.
Part B - Manipulate the Windows 7 Partitions Prior to installing LinuxMint13, you need to make changes to the existing Windows 7 partitions. Specifically, you need to perform these steps: • Copy the Windows boot manager to the System C: partition • Delete the 100MB System Reserved partition • Resize the System partition (C: drive) into the unallocated space after deleting the System Reserved partition • Create unallocated space for the LinuxMint13 installation by shrinking the Data partition (F: drive) All this can be accomplished using EasyBCD, and the Partition Wizard installation on the USB flash drive. If you are unfamiliar with Partition Wizard, then I recommend reading this tutorial before proceeding further. If your partition layout is different, and you aren't sure how to proceed, then reply to this tutorial seeking advice. Be sure to include a screen capture of your Windows 7 disk management screen that clearly shows your partition layout. Step 1 - Copy boot manager to System C: partition Install EasyBCD to your computer.
Run EasyBCD and now follow the very simple steps explained in the short tutorial below, to copy the Windows 7 boot manager from the 100MB System Reserved partition to the System C: partition: Once you have performed this step, close EasyBCD. Check to ensure that the boot manager has been copied correctly by examining the partition layout in the Windows Disk Management screen. Your System C: partition status should now include the Boot option under the partition status, as shown in the example below. Close the Disk Management screen when you have verified that the Boot status is correct. Step 2 - Delete the 100MB System Reserved partition Insert the YUMI flash drive into your computer, and boot from it.
Run Partition Wizard by selecting it from the System Tools menu, as shown below. Once Partition Wizard has opened, delete the 100MB System Reserved Partition - you will now have 100MB unallocated space sitting to the left of your System partition, as shown below. Step 3 - Resize the System partition into the unallocated space Stretch the System partition to the left, into the unallocated space created in step 2 above, so that you only have a System partition and Data partition as shown below. Step 4 - Create unallocated space for the LinuxMint13 installation Shrink the Data partition to the right, thereby creating unallocated space between the System partition and Data partition, as shown below. This unallocated space is where LinuxMint13 will be installed too. You can also shrink the System partition, or use combinations of resizing both the System partition and Data partition to create the unallocated space for the LinuxMint13 installation.
LinuxMint13 requires a minimum of 8.6GB, but I usually assign more space for updates, data etc. Reboot your system to complete the partition manipulation. You have now completed Part B of the tutorial. Part C - Install LinuxMint13 Insert the YUMI flash drive into your computer, and boot from it. Run the LinuxMint13 boot menu/installer by selecting it from from the Linux Distributions menu, as shown below. From the LinuxMint boot menu, choose to install to a hard disk, as shown below.
Once the LinuxMint13 desktop loads, select the Install Linux Mint option by double-clicking it, as shown below. Follow the the prompts to select your language. When prompted to select your installation type, be sure to choose the option labelled Install Linux Mint alongside Windows 7, as shown below.
LinuxMint13 will now be installed into the unallocated space created in PART B of the tutorial. Whilst installation is proceeding, follow the remainder of the prompt screens to specify your locality, keyboard layout and machine name and user account details. You will be prompted as to whether you wish to import any existing Windows 7 account details (contacts, favorites, bookmarks etc.) into the LinuxMint13 installation (as shown below) - highlight the listed Windows 7 option shown and and click Continue to do that, or simply click Continue to skip this step.
Once installation has been completed, you will be prompted to reboot your system as shown below. Once your system reboots, you will be presented with the Linux GRUB screen - don't panic, this is perfectly normal.
PART D of this tutorial will show you how to easily customise your boot order. You have now completed PART C of the tutorial. Part D - Customise the Windows 7/LinuxMint13 boot order.
The boot screen images in this part of the tutorial use Ubuntu as an example - this is simply for convenience for the tutorial. The boot screens for LinuxMint13 will look very similar, obviously with the word Ubuntu replaced by the word LinuxMint13. EasyBCD allows you to easily customise the boot sequence so that the familiar Windows boot screen is the screen from which you select the operating system to boot. When you first boot your PC after installing LinuxMint13, you will be presented with the GRUB screen, as shown below.
Select the Windows 7 option to boot in Windows as normal, and then run EasyBCD. Now complete the following steps: Step 1 - Add the LinuxMint13 boot entry Replicate the steps shown in the image below to add the LinuxMint13 boot entry. Take note of the confirmation message that appears briefly at the bottom of the panel. Step 2 - Add the Windows 7 boot entry Replicate the steps shown in the image below to write the Windows 7 bootloader.Take note of the confirmation message that appears briefly at the bottom of the panel. Step 3 - Review the Windows 7 / LinuxMint13 boot sequence Review the default boot options, and make any changes if you wish. Close EasyBCD and reboot your computer.
You will now see the Windows 7 boot screen with the Windows 7 and LinuxMint13 boot options (Ubuntu is shown in this example). If you select the Windows 7 option, your computer will boot into Windows 7 as normal. If you select the LinuxMint13 option, then the GRUB boot screen will appear, and from that you select the LinuxMint13 option to boot it, as shown below.
You have now completed the entire tutorial. This is how the dual-boot installation look in Windows 7 Disk Manager - note the blank entries marked with arrows: Windows cannot read the format of Linux partitions. And this is how the dual-boot installation looks in Partition Wizard. I have been looking into making my own decals for some of my planes. I have looked through some of the posts here and have a pretty good handle on the materials to use, but software is another item. I realize there will be several opinions for which software to use so let me state some criteria.
DecalGear.com - The hobbyist's source for inkjet decal paper, modeling supplies and SureThing Decal Maker-- custom decal making software for modelers and hobbyists. Warning: Bad buzz about Testor's Decal Maker kit 13391 views. Order Ascending; Order Descending. With decals made using the Testors decal kit.
I will be making/editing graphics for decals. I would like to be able to manipulate images saved from web pages (or similar type files). It would be nice if there were tools to create my own graphics. Photo editing would be a plus, but not a strict requirement.
I do not want to take out a second (oops 3rd, the second was for my planes ) mortgage for the software. RAGII, That's the rub. Good software to do what you're asking is going to cost.
One of the standards for this would be Photoshop, but it's a pricey package. That's what Minnflyer and I use for most of the graphics that we do here (Minn uses the Mac version and I use the Windows version). I also use Corel Draw for graphics that I cut vinyl/monokote. But once again it's expensive too.
If you have a Linux system you can use The Gimp which is incredibly powerful graphics package. There is a Windows cross-over for The Gimp but I haven't tried it yet. You can find it here: [link=Gimp for Windows[/link] Depending on what graphics you're looking for I may be able to help you. PM me and we'll see if we can work something out. Sorry that I couldn't be much help here Ken. Ken, I did some more looking on RCU and found a reference to a package called Xara Extreme.
[link]For $79.00 (or $89.00 with a few extras) it looks like a great package for a really low cost. Have you heard of it or know anyone using it? The first graphics I am thinking of are for my SSC combat plane. (Flying combat helps accelerate my flying skill with planes that are hard to damage).
MY son has been helping me with the color scheme and wants me to make it look like Tony Stewart's NASCAR race car. (Home Depot sponsor). I have an Ink Jet printer that takes photo cartridges and access to a color laser printer if I need. I was hoping to take some images from the Web and manipulate them for decals.
Looking ahead, I can see myself doing some more custom decals of various items. I have read in some posts about your services and have that in mind should I fail in this attempt, or if I want something of a higher quality.
I do not plan on doing this as a business as I have a hard enough time building my planes, much less trying to supply graphics for anyone. (Slow Poke build that is taking forever.) Thanks, Rob. ORIGINAL: Campy If you have a digital camera, the MAJORITY of the manufacturers provide a BASIC photo editing software. This can be used in many cases for editing your scans. If you do a Google for 'Free photo editing software' you find a multitude of listings, many of which are freeware or shareware (I have gotten some decent programs from shareware). Hope this helps.
Campy, Thanks for the cover. I hadn't even thought of that. I guess my brain is mush tonight. It's been a long day!!!
I think I have a couple of disks laying around here of the freebie version of that Photoshop gives out with digital cameras. If I can find it I'll check to make sure that it truly is free and I'll zip it up and send it to you if you want. You can actually do quite a bit with an inkjet printer and the Avery media materials that are available. Not looking at the stars on the plane in these pictures, but all the rest of the graphics that I did here were done with an HP inkjet printer and Avery window decal material.
It's a clear material that is easy to print on. One thing to keep in mind when doing graphics like these is that they aren't fuel proof. You need to seal them up in some way. When I did the SSE in these pictures I sealed them with clear monokote.
But after a season of flying I wasn't happy with the way they were holding up. Since then I've found a better way of sealing graphics (all types including vinyl), use clear fingernail polish. It's easy to put on, it's crystal clear, it's fuel-proof, it dries hard as a rock, and it's very hard to see once it dries. Hope this helps Ken. The decal above was made with $50 software on my pc and printed on my HP printer. I used Avery label paper bought from Staples Office Supply.
That one took almost no time to do. I copied the image from online but it was rough.
Most of the dark lines were blurred and the colors weren't very vibrant. I used my paint program (the last upgrade version cost me $30) to fix all the problems.
I sized up a number of versions of different sizes so I could match the size to the airplane and printed the block of them on a sheet of Avery label paper. I fuel proofed the paper with UltraKote clear spray and cut out the right sized MightyMouse and stuck it on. The paint program is Paint Shop Pro and it cost me $60 when I bought the first version about 5 years ago. I didn't know to wait for it to come out in a new version to get the best price. If you wait for a new version, the last year's version will be marked way down.
I've bought it for $20. Upgrades now are something like $30 usually. Every paint program I've used will do almost everything that every other paint program will do.
I've never used a free one. I've used a couple that cost BIG MONEY, but they didn't do anything worth the price. If they hadn't been at work, I'd never have used them. I wouldn't pay half their price to get them for myself. If they were $30, I'm not sure I'd go buy them today. Ain't nothing I can't do with PSP, and it was $30. The decal below wasn't quite as simple.
The old gunfighter was just him, no background, nothing else, just the old guy. I used PSP to layer a green bordered, white circle behind him. Then put a green bordered rectangle below. Then used the text tool to put the letters in the rectangle. Then sized up a bunch of different sizes and printed that out on the Avery paper. Took about 3-4 minutes.
Sprayed the clear lacquer on. Took about 1 minute. Cut it out and stuck it on.
Took 2 minutes. I have two kinds of Avery Label paper. One isn't paper. It's clear and I use it to make lettering etc. The other is what I used for the two examples shown. Most pc printers don't 'ink' in the color white. So I use the white Avery stock for anything that's going to have white in it.
If it's not going to have white, I use the transparent. The transparent still needs fuelproofing because the ink isn't. If you can spray paint with a can, you can do it.

Work [ ] Physical geography at Cambridge [ ] Cambridge had provided the launching pad for Chorley's revolutionary ideas. He rejected the prevailing of the Davisian and sought to replace these with a quantitative model-based paradigm with an emphasis on and numerical modelling.
[ ] Richard Chorley's negative assessment of Davis theories led to state that 'Davis bashing' was a theme' for Chorley. Cambridge contained a strong group in with colleagues that encouraged Chorley's ideas.
It also provided a good environment for him to conduct his experiments. Chorley produced volumes of scientific papers in physical geography that his approach and allowed him to ask new questions about earth surface processes and ways they can be studied.
Central to these was the concept of system dynamics, and his production of Physical Geography: A Systems Approach (1971) and Environmental Systems (1978) that influenced a generation of scholars. Chorley's studies ranged into and where he cooperated with Colorado meteorologist Roger Barry on the text, Atmosphere, Weather and Climate (1968). Many of his writings were jointly authored or edited, including Water, Earth and Man (1969). In addition, Chorley launched in 1964 the first of a series of text on The History of the Study of Landforms.
Two further volumes were published in 1973 and 1991. At the time of Chorley's death, Volume 4 was nearing completion. Progress in Geography [ ] Instead of confining himself to physical geography, Chorley took a broad approach to change in geography as a whole. Chinua Achebe Chinua Achebe 1930- In Survey of World Literature, 1992. Principal Literary Achievement As the first African writer to win broad critical acclaim in Europe and America and the most widely read African novelist, Chinua Achebe has shaped the world's understanding of Africa and its literature. Biography Chinua Achebe was born in Eastern Nigeria on November 16, 1930, to Isaiah and Janet Achebe, who christened their son Albert Chinualamogu. Isaiah Okafor Achebe was a catechist for the Church Missionary Society, and he and his wife traveled Eastern Nigeria as evangelists before settling in Ogidi, Isaiah's ancestral Igbo village, five years after Chinua Achebe's birth. Growing up in Ogidi, Achebe had contact with both Christian and Igbo religious beliefs and customs. Achebe's first lessons were taught in Igbo at the church school in Ogidi. He began to learn English at the age of eight.
An avid reader and an outstanding student, Achebe was selected at fourteen to attend Government College, a highly selective secondary school in Umuahia, where one of his classmates was the poet Christopher Okigbo. Upon graduation, Achebe accepted a scholarship to study medicine at University College in lbadan, but after one year decided to switch to the study of English literature, forfeiting his scholarship.
No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe is the story of a young Ibo man educated on scholarship in England, whose fine civil service job with UNIT 1 CHINUA. Chinua Achebe taught me to be principled, A Man of the People, Chinua Achebe has delineated a typical representative of the emergent bourgeoisie., truthful, In his. In Chinua Achebe's novel, A Man of the People, two contrasting groups of people from a political and social aspect based in West Africa.
With the financial assistance of his older brother John, he was able to continue his studies. Achebe and the Yoruban playwright Wole Soyinka, who were to become Nigeria's best known authors, were undergraduates together at University College and published their first work in undergraduate publications. 'Polar Undergraduate' (1950), a satire of student behavior that was later collected in Girls at War and Other Stories (1 972), was Achebe's first published fiction. In his third year, Achebe became editor of the University Herald.
After his graduation in 1953, Achebe took a position as Talks Producer for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). In 1958 Achebe published Things Fall Apart which won him the Margaret Wrong Memorial Prize for the novel's contribution to African literature.
In 1960, the year of Nigeria's independence, Achebe published No Longer at Ease and was awarded the Nigerian National Trophy for Literature. Achebe spent the remainder of 1960 and part of 1961 traveling through East Africa, interviewing other African writers. After his return to Nigeria he married Christie Chinwe Okoli, with whom he was to have four children, and was appointed Director of External Broadcasting for NBC. In 1962, Achebe became the founding editor of Heinemann's African Writers Series, and in 1963, he traveled in the United States, Brazil, and Britain on a UNESCO fellowship. Achebe published Arrow of God in 1964 and was honored with the Jack Campbell New Statesman Award for his accomplishment.
His publication of the prophetic A Man of the People (1966) was followed by successive military coups, massacres of Igbos, and the secession of Biafra in 1967. Achebe was forced to leave Lagos after the second coup, and during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-70) he became a spokesperson for the Biafran cause in Europe and North America. He also served as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka which was renamed the University of Biafra during the war. After three years of bitter struggle, Biafra surrendered, and Achebe, more dedicated than ever to the preservation of Igbo culture, began editing Okike: An African Journal of New Writing. He published his literary response to the war in Beware Soul Brother (1971) and Girls at War and Other Stories (1972), winning the Commonwealth Poetry Prize in 1972 for Beware Soul Brother, which was published in the United States as Christmas in Biafra and Other Poems (1 973). From 1972 to 1976, Achebe taught in the United States at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where his wife earned a doctorate, and the University of Connecticut. After the 1976 assassination of Murtala Muhammed, for whom Achebe had great respect, the author returned to teach at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka.
In 1979, Achebe was elected Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors and received the Nigerian National Merit Award and the Order of the Federal Republic. In 1982, he and Obiora Udechukwu edited Aka Weta, an anthology of 'egwu' verse.
Disillusioned by President Shehu Shagari's failure to fight the corruption that was impoverishing Nigeria and saddened by the death of Mallam Aminu Kano, the leader of the People's Redemption Party, Achebe served as Deputy National President of the PRP in the election year of 1983. In The Trouble with Nigeria (1983), he presented his political prescription for improving Nigeria. After Shagari's reelection and removal from office by a subsequent military coup, Achebe once again concentrated his energies on artistic and cultural projects, editing the bilingual Uwa ndi lgbo: a Journal of Igbo Life and Culture. In 1986, Achebe was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the State University of Anambra at Enugu. The following year, Achebe published his first novel in twenty years, Anthills of the Savannah (1987) and returned to teach in the United States at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, the City College of New York, and Bard College.
